Revenue collection in Ogun 1 Command is Improving says Compt Otunla.

The Customs Area Controller of Ogun 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service Comptroller GA Otunla has said that revenue collection is improving as a result of some strategic interventions introduced to the command.

In a chat with Global Freight News, he said, ” I and my management team jack up our revenue collection from #15 million to over #45 million higher than what we met. We introduced some necessary mechanisms to block all revenue leakage. So our various interventions are yielding positive result, he said.

Comptroller Otunla said that all things that are supposed to escape has been channeled through the approved route as we collects appropriate duty through the baggage.

According to him, “In my first press briefing, we showcased revenue collection of #45 million as against #15 that we met with lots of other seizures. So all hands are on deck to checkmate the activities of smugglers.

We are not relenting on our duty. With the cooperation from my officers coupled with the huge support from the CGC’s management team in area of logistics and encouragement, the sky is our limit,” he said.

Otunla said that the high cost of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) has reduced smuggling activities tremendously on PMS.

” We are giving smugglers a fight for their money. My regime operates on zero tolerance. So far, there has not been any casualty as we carry out our duty thrust more intelligently. The Command’s anti-bunkering are not resting on their oars as they police all nooks and cranny of the border areas added, he added.

He said that despite the bad road network, the command has recorded revenue increase in export.

He also said that the command seized over 4000 (50kg) bags of foreign parboiled rice which is about 7 trailers load.

On relationship with stakeholders, he said that command enjoy robust interaction with all stakeholders.

“We have meetings with traditional ruler and community heads regularly. So far, our relationship is very cordial,” he said.

On Corporate Service Responsibility (CSR), he said that the command is planning to organize a football competition with the youths as this move will motivate them positively and productively. He also said that”with the support of the CGC, that the command is planning to assist some identified communities with boreholes.

“On officers motivation, he said, “we have sent some names of our outstanding officers to the headquarters for recognition during the annual World Customs Organisation (WCO) celebration. The move will not only encourage them to do but also boost the morale of others that there is dignity in labour.

“The road network is bad but we do invite importers to drive patiently on the road,” he concluded.
