CUSTOMS: Tincan Island Port Command Hands Over Illicit Drugs Worth Over #8 Billion To NDLEA.

The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has handed over illicit drugs worth over #8 Billion Naira to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the Port

Briefing Journalists during the handing over ceremony held in the Enforcement Unit of the Tincan Island Port Command, the Area Controller, Comptroller Onyeka Frank who handed over the seized items to the Commander NDLEA, Tincan Island Strategic Command, Mitchell Ofoyeju noted that the drugs were intercepted due to high level of intelligence gathered by officers of the command, in collaboration with the men of the NDLEA.

Furthermore, Comptroller Onyeka disclosed that the 2×20 foot containers were intercepted in different batches were falsely declared to contain used Cars and used Auto Spare parts originating from Canada.

A breakdown of the seizure are; 1×20 ft container No. TCNU 194586/1, was seized on the 27th of February, 2025 was found to contain 128 packets of cannabis sativa weighing 63.75 kilograms with an estimated street value of 414,375,000’00.

The second container with no MSMU 838666/3 was intercepted on the 12th of December, 2024 and found to contain 97 packets of Crystal Methamphetamine, weighing 78.3 kg with an estimated street value of #2 billion. 1,735 packets of cannabis sativa weighing 867.5 kg with street value of #5,638,750,000.00 which brought the total street value of the seized drugs to #8,053,135,000.00

Comptroller Onyeka said, “These seizures underscored the command’s dedication to safeguarding the nation from the menace of illicit drugs,” he stated.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to facilitating trade, while remaining vigilant against activities inimical to the national security and public health. He said that the command will continue to enhance its operational strategies, including intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration, to effectively combat smuggling and other illicit activities.

He therefore used the medium to urge all stakeholders to support the efforts of the command in maintaining integrity of Nigeria’s borders and ports, he added.
