REJOINDER: Seme Border Corridor.

The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service is not resting on its oars in the fight against smuggling.

A rejoinder of Sunday Vanguard, 7 June 2026 portraying the command in a bad light.

Barely three (3) weeks ago, the command showcased various seizures worth several millions. It is Worthy to note that the command has sustained aggressive intelligence-led enforcement aimed at combating economic sabotage, protecting local industries, and safeguarding public health and national security.

The command has seized 1000 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, 55 bottles of Ultimate Plus Maca Sildfenafil Citrate (100 ml) each, 88 packs of 99 Bullets Herbal Medicine (30ml each), 10 cartons of ultimate plus Maca Sildfenafil Citrate (200mg), 14 cartons of Machine Man Sildfenafil Citrate (200) mg, quantities of Bottom Up Sildfenafil Citrate (200 mg), 100 packs of Tempendol. These seized products has been handed over to NAFDAC for appropriate regulatory action.

In the same veinremoval the command also seized 2000 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, 340 kegs of 25 litres of foreign vegetable oil, 103 kegs of 25 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 993 cartons of foreign spaghetti, and 250 bales of used clothing with duty paid of #501,845,772.00.

The seizures underscore the command’s zero tolerance position against smuggling. Comptroller Shuaibu Kaila reaffirmed the Command’s determination to protect the nation’s capital economy, support local industries, preserve public safety, and enforce compliance with extant Laws.

Kaila warning smugglers said , ” Let me use this opportunity to reaffirm the command’s commitment to fighting smuggling and also issue a strong warning to smugglers and their collaborators that the Seme Area Command will not serve as a safe haven for illicit trade.”

On customs checkpoints, the command has Four (4) along the Agbara-seme axis as directed by the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR PhD.

It is true that one cannot judge someone from a distance. A reporter invited for the first time to cover the event recorded by the command did not report the command’s milestone achievement but went ahead to malign the command by misinforming the general public.

The action of Efe Onodjae, a reporter from Sunday Vanguard Newspaper edition of 7th June, 2026 is biased and unacceptable.

So a visit to Seme Border, day or night will confirm the high level intelligence that the command has put in place to dismantle and neutralize the network of smugglers in the border areas.
