Western Marine Handed Over 1452 Loaves of Cannabis Sativa to NDLEA.

The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has handed over 1,452 Loaves of Cannabis Sativa weighing about 730kg with Duty Paid Value of #152 million to the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The drugs were intercepted by a team of eagle eyes officers acting on intelligence who proceeded to the pool beach, where they found a set of smugglers trying to off load the already packaged sacks of Cannabis Sativa from a wooden boat with a 40 horse power (HP) Yamaha outboard engine to land.

On sighting the officers, the smugglers abandoned their boat and fled leaving their boat and the seized items which the officers quickly secured and took to the command.

Between January to December 2024, a total of forty (40) seizures were made with Duty Paid Value of #1,167,333,375.00. Significant among the seizures include; over Twenty Two Thousand and Seventy Five litres of PMS with DPV of #18, 274,975.00, 1,556 of parboiled rice within the period under review. Total value of the rice is #172,780,000.00, 138 cartons of imported frozen poultry products worth #10,111,500.00.

Also, 8,006 loaves of Cannabis Sativa were intercepted between the months of January to December 2024. The duty paid value is put at #955,335,500.00. The drugs has been handed over to NDLEA. 100 small plastic bottles of codeine syrup with DPV of #1,200,000.00.

It will interest you to know that between January and March 2025, the command made it total of nine seizures which include; 704 bags of smuggled 50kg bag of rice valued at #71,123,100, 3,856 Loaves of Cannabis Sativa valued at #585,645,000 were intercepted between the period under review.

392 (300 ml) plastic bottles of codeine syrup valued at #6,865,000. The command arrested a total of Four (4) suspects in connection with some of these 2025 seizures and they have been prosecuted in accordance with the provisions of the NCS ACT 2023.

The duty paid value of the nine seizures is over 702 million naira which represents an increase of 8.7% when compared to the same period in 2024 that had seizures worth a DPV of #645million.

The command is poised in her resolve to continue building and improving on the achievements so far made in the areas of Anti-smuggling feats.
