Ogun 1 Customs Command Intercepts 7,217.7 Kilograms of Illicit drugs.

The Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has dared the smugglers and intercepts 7,217.7 Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa and 362 packs of 225 mg Tramadol tablets with Duty Paid Value of #117,587,405.00.

Addressing Journalists, Comptroller James Ojo, Customs Area Controller, Ogun 1 Command, highlighted the scale and impact of the Command’s efforts.

According to him, the seizures which include, 403 sacks and 6,504 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, were as a result of intelligence led operations conducted at strategic locations across Ogun state.

“Between 13th October and 12th of November 2024, We seized 1,373 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 1,337 kg and 362 packs of Tramaking tablets, abandoned in some locations at Agbawo/Igantoko area in Yewa North Local Government and Imeko Afon axis. These operations exemplify the NCS’s dedication to combating drug smuggling and protecting the well-being of our citizens”, he said.

Oga described the raising rate of drug traffickers as alarming but assured Nigerians of the Command’s resilience in tackling the menace. “These seizures not only disrupt the supply chain of dangerous substances but also serve as a warning to drug traffickers. Our operatives are resolute in ensuring that no illicit items cross our borders”, he added.

He therefore, acknowledged the important role of collaboration in achieving these successes. Ojo credited the synergy between the Command’s intelligence unit, sister agencies and local informants for the monumental interceptions.

In line with the standard operating procedures of the Service, the seized items were handed over to the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Command, CN Olusegun Adeyeye, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
The hand over reflects the NCS’s commitment to transparency and the rule of law.

However, he attributed the Command’s success to the strong leadership and support provided by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR for providing the enabling environment, which has strengthened operations and bolstered the Command’s efficiency.

He reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to ensuring the safety and health of Nigerians. He also pledged continued enhancement of intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation in combating all forms of smuggling and criminal activities while calling on the public to support by providing credible information so as to build a safer and drug free nation, he concluded.
