MWUN Hosts Port Police Commissioner.

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) under the leadership of Comrade (Prince) Adewale Adeyanju, fnli, HFCPSP hosted the Commissioner of Police, Port Command, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, pcs + and hid lieutenants, DCP in charge of Operations, Ibrahim Abdu, Officer in Charge of the CP Monitoring Team, COS Ojo Ahmed, DPO Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, CSP Ibimode Adeleye amongst others.

The Commissioner Mr Ibrahim, visited MWUN to fraternize and familiarise with the foremost Maritime Union in the country which he said is a worthy commendation.

CP Ibrahim says, “I am overwhelmed with the unprecedented warm reception given to me and my lieutenants at the Union Secretariat.

He noted that the Union and His command have formed a community synergy with the visit which he said was one of the basic reasons for the visit.

CP Ibrahim explained that the President General of the Union, who doubles as the Deputy President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Vice President Global, International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) that he should see the Police as brothers and not mere friends as goes the popular cliche because the Police cannot work in isolation without the Union, who is a major stakeholder in the maritime industry.

In his speech, Ibrahim also described Comrade Adeyanju as a brother and said that his office is fully open to the President General at all times, saying that, he is impressed with the kind of personalities in the executives of the Union.

Comrade Adeyanju who was delightful of the visit described the CP as a crack and versatile Police Officer, who graduated from the Nigeria Police Academy in June, 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who had risen to the rank of Commissioner of Police at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja before his recent deployment to the Port Command, Apapa, Lagos.

Adeyanju said that the CP parades intimidating profile so far in his career in the force having served in various capacities and having led contingent of officers to peace keeping missions to Sudan and Kosovo respectively, where he received the United Nations (UN) commendation award amongst others.

Adeyanju raised a question during the occasion. He asked the CP, “What is Police”. Also,Adeyanju answered the question that Police is all about policing, adding that the CP, as an embodiment of policing; hence his numerous achievements in the course of his duty, stressing little wonder in his new rank and His deployment to the Port Command for effective and efficient policing as a seasoned officer who is worth his onions in our time.

Comrade Adeyanju and his executives were happy over the CP’s August visit, saying that it was it was the very first time that the Union Will play host to the Port Police command and that it will go down in the annals of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) history.

However, he promised to work with the Police while assuring the entourage that the era of thuggery and hooliganism had since gone into limbo. He emphasised that the digitalized with educated and well trained union workers, both at the jetties, oil and gas platforms and the Nation’s seaports.

Also, he stated that the Union can issue threats of strike if after exhausting all necessary stipulated avenues with government agencies or stakeholders without positive response. The PG noted that the economic implications of shutting down the gateway to the nation’s economy, the Union is always tactical and diplomatic about strikes until interfaced with a meaningful dialogue to resolving whatever industrial disputes that came up.

Adeyanju pointed out to the CP, that having joined to declare community synergy, that the Port environments will be conducive for operations.

Therefore, he assured the command that he will take the issue of effective policing to the DG NIMASA and the Managing Director, Nigeria Ports Authority, who he described as gentlemen of the sector and to intimate them on the need to police properly. “You cannot appoint a police officer into a designation without the proper and necessary equipment made available for crime prevention and protection of property,” he added.
